Sr SC Capital Projects Specialist

Xcelenergy is hiring a Senior SC Capital Projects Specialist at our Amarillo, TX, 79101 location. As a full-time member of our infrastructure development team, you'll take ownership of significant capital projects that enhance energy delivery and system reliability across our service territory.

What This Role Involves

Capital projects are the backbone of grid modernization and system integrity. As Senior SC Capital Projects Specialist, you'll oversee the planning, design review, budgeting, and execution of high-impact substation construction and related infrastructure initiatives. You'll work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and contractor teams to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety standards. Your expertise will directly influence how we build resilient, efficient energy systems for the communities we serve.

What You'll Do

• Lead capital projects from conception through completion, including scope definition, cost estimation, and stakeholder management
• Coordinate with engineering and construction teams to ensure projects meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and vendor relationships to optimize delivery and value
• Conduct design reviews and quality assurance inspections throughout project phases
• Develop and implement project schedules, risk mitigation strategies, and contingency plans
• Ensure all work meets OSHA, NERC, and other applicable safety and compliance standards
• Mentor junior project staff and contribute to team development and process improvement
• Prepare project documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 8+ years of capital projects experience in utility infrastructure, electrical systems, or similar heavy industrial environment
• Demonstrated project management expertise with complex, multi-year initiatives
• Strong understanding of substation design, construction practices, and electrical systems
• Knowledge of utility industry regulations, safety standards, and compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with project management tools and software
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the service territory as needed
