Xcelenergy seeks a full-time Senior GIS IT Engineer to lead geospatial systems and infrastructure management at our Denver, CO headquarters. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you'll oversee critical GIS infrastructure, mentor engineering teams, and ensure spatial data systems operate at peak performance for one of the nation's major energy providers.

What This Role Involves

As Senior GIS IT Engineer, you are responsible for managing enterprise Geographic Information Systems infrastructure that powers Xcelenergy's energy distribution, transmission, and utility asset operations across the region. You'll combine deep GIS technical expertise with IT systems administration to architect, maintain, and optimize spatial data platforms that hundreds of employees depend on daily. This position requires both hands-on technical work and strategic oversight—you'll design system improvements, troubleshoot complex integrations, and guide the technical roadmap for GIS applications serving operations, engineering, and planning teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain GIS databases, enterprise geodatabases, and spatial data infrastructure
  • Oversee ArcGIS platform management, including licensing, server configurations, and application deployments
  • Lead technical projects involving GIS system upgrades, migrations, and integrations with utility operations software
  • Develop and maintain data management workflows, ensuring accuracy and accessibility across the organization
  • Provide technical mentoring and support to GIS analysts, developers, and field teams
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and implement solutions to maximize system uptime and performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align GIS capabilities with business requirements and operational priorities

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of professional GIS experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or infrastructure-focused role
  • Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, or ArcGIS Online technologies
  • Strong background in relational database administration (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience managing IT infrastructure, networks, or systems administration
  • Technical leadership ability—experience mentoring teams or managing technical projects
  • Familiarity with utility industry operations, asset management, or energy sector applications (desired)
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
