Sr Manager, Software Development Engineering – Agentic & Semantic System

Workday is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering – Agentic and Semantic Systems to lead technical innovation at our Vancouver, BC office. This is a full-time role focused on architecting and delivering next-generation AI-driven systems that power intelligent automation across enterprise platforms.

What This Role Involves

As Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering for our Agentic and Semantic Systems team, you'll own the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery of distributed systems that leverage large language models, semantic understanding, and autonomous agent technologies. You'll guide a talented engineering organization through complex platform challenges, balancing innovation with operational excellence while establishing best practices for AI-integrated software development at scale.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
• Define technical roadmap and architecture for agentic and semantic systems initiatives
• Drive design decisions around AI model integration, semantic indexing, and autonomous agent orchestration
• Oversee system design, code quality, and delivery timelines for complex, mission-critical features
• Collaborate across product, data science, and infrastructure teams to align technical strategy with business objectives
• Identify and mitigate technical risks; establish governance and testing frameworks for AI-driven systems
• Recruit, develop, and retain world-class engineering talent

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a management or technical leadership role
• Proven expertise designing and scaling distributed systems, microservices architectures, or cloud-native platforms
• Strong foundation in modern software engineering practices: continuous integration, automated testing, observability
• Experience with AI/ML systems, large language models, or semantic technologies (desired)
• Track record of building and growing high-performing technical teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across organizational levels
