Software Engineer – Web Platform

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential media and digital agency based in Manchester, seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to join their Web Platform team. In this hands-on role, you will contribute production code across modern web platforms with a strong focus on TypeScript and C#/.NET.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Building and evolving cloud-hosted web platforms using TypeScript and C#/.NET
• Developing APIs, backend services, server-side applications and integrations with third-party and SaaS platforms
• Working across the web stack, contributing to TypeScript and React applications as well as the services behind them
• Integrating technologies such as headless CMS, search, personalisation, analytics and other composable platform services
• Helping design and evolve distributed and composable web architectures
• Contributing to how applications are deployed, configured, monitored and operated in Azure
• Working with cloud infrastructure and services including application hosting, serverless functions, storage, networking, monitoring and configuration management
• Contributing to engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, observability and documentation
• Ensuring platforms are accessible, performant, secure, resilient and operationally supportable in production
• Collaborating with engineers, designers, delivery managers and stakeholders as part of a cross-disciplinary product team
• Sharing knowledge and helping improve how the team builds and delivers technology

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Commercial experience building modern web applications or web platforms using TypeScript and/or C#/.NET
• Good working knowledge of both TypeScript and C#/.NET, with stronger experience in at least one
• Experience developing APIs, backend services and integrations
• A solid understanding of how modern web applications work across the browser, application, API and infrastructure layers
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure or a comparable cloud platform (practical experience highly desired)

Desirable experience:

• Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts such as application hosting, serverless compute, networking, identity, configuration, secrets, logging and monitoring
• Familiarity with CI/CD, modern DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with modern web technologies such as Node.js and React
• Understanding of engineering fundamentals including testing, maintainability, performance, security, observability and scalability
• Experience working with distributed or composable architectures
• Familiarity with headless CMS, search, personalisation or similar web platform technologies
• Experience working within collaborative cross-disciplinary teams
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn from and support others
• A passion for building thoughtful, well-engineered digital products

Please note: This is a UK-based role requiring the right to work in the United Kingdom. The position is hybrid, with approximately four days per week in the Manchester office.
