About This Opportunity
We are representing a well-funded marketing technology company seeking a Software Engineer II (Mobile Developer - Android/Kotlin) to join their Mobile App Growth team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates across the United States.
Our client builds developer tools that enable businesses to create personalized mobile app experiences. The team you'll join owns native and wrapper SDKs across iOS, Android, React Native, Expo, and Flutter, along with the backend services that power in-app messaging, universal linking, and geofencing capabilities.
This role offers significant ownership and breadth — you'll start Android-first but have opportunities to contribute across the full mobile stack and backend services as priorities evolve. The team is actively building greenfield features this year, so you'll be contributing to new product launches from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship features and fixes to the Android SDK used across a diverse range of third-party applications and OS versions
- Contribute to other mobile SDKs (iOS, React Native, Expo, Flutter) when team priorities require cross-platform support
- Work on backend services, infrastructure, and embedded web UI powering in-app messaging, universal linking, geofencing, and new features like mobile inbox
- Diagnose and resolve SDK integration issues reported by customers
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate actively in code and design reviews
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure consistent tracking and messaging behavior across platforms
- Contribute to documentation, sample applications, and integration guides for SDK adoption
What We're Looking For
- 1-3 years of professional Android development experience, ideally including Kotlin; this is your core strength and primary focus
- Self-motivated engineer who can take ownership of problems end-to-end without heavy oversight
- High ownership mindset — you treat outcomes as yours, not just the code you personally write
- Adaptability to pick up iOS, backend, or frontend work when it falls under the team's scope
- Production experience shipping and maintaining Android code with solid understanding of the Android lifecycle, threading, and Gradle
- Comfort debugging across a wide matrix of devices, OS versions, and third-party app environments (SDK work means you don't control the host app)
- Quality-minded approach with familiarity in testing practices (unit, integration, instrumentation) and CI/CD for mobile
- Clear communication skills for working with both internal teams and external developers
- Curiosity and willingness to work with webviews, location services, and new technologies (Python, React, AWS) as the team's surface area grows
Bonus qualifications: Experience building or maintaining an SDK/library (versus an app), exposure to iOS/Swift or backend services, familiarity with push notification/messaging systems, or contributions to open source projects.
Technologies used: iOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin), React Native, Flutter, React, TypeScript, Redux, Python, Django, MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB, AWS (EC2, RDS, Aurora), Terraform
