Software Engineer – Backend – Behavioral Security Products

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded cybersecurity organization that specializes in behavioral threat detection and identity protection. Our client is seeking a Software Engineer to join their backend engineering team working on AI-powered security products that detect and prevent sophisticated attacks including account takeover, identity spoofing, and data leakage.

This is a remote position where you'll work on scalable backend systems, ML infrastructure, and AI-powered features that protect organizations from advanced threats. You'll collaborate with senior engineers to build and maintain production systems while growing your expertise in both traditional backend development and emerging AI agent technologies.

Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Systems Development

• Design, build, and iterate on scalable backend systems, APIs, ML infrastructure, and internal tools
• Take ownership of well-scoped features and components with guidance from senior engineers on complex, cross-system work
• Contribute to stability, reliability, and operational excellence of critical production systems
• Write clean, testable, resilient code with attention to edge cases and performance optimization
• Participate in technical design documents, code reviews, and on-call rotations

AI Engineering & Agent Development

• Build LLM-powered features and agentic workflows for automated investigation, triage, and remediation
• Integrate LLM APIs and agent frameworks into backend services with focus on reliability, cost, and latency
• Contribute to prompt design, tool/function-calling integrations, and guardrails for AI-driven components
• Leverage GenAI coding assistants and agents to accelerate development and testing workflows

Collaboration & Communication

• Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to align on specifications and priorities
• Break down projects into executable steps and drive them to completion
• Communicate effectively in an async-first environment with clear updates on progress and blockers
• Actively seek feedback and mentorship to accelerate your professional growth

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Qualifications

• 3-5 years of industry experience as a Software Engineer shipping production backend systems
• Strong backend proficiency in Python with experience building and maintaining production applications
• Solid understanding of system design fundamentals and building reliable, scalable applications
• Working knowledge of relational databases and modern data storage technologies
• Experience with AWS cloud services (S3, RDS) and deployment practices
• Understanding of service health monitoring and incident response practices
• Comfortable writing technical documentation and contributing to design discussions

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to service-to-service communication (gRPC, Kafka) and caching (Redis)
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) into production applications
• Exposure to agent frameworks or patterns (LangChain, LangGraph, function calling, ReAct-style agents)
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation, and observability for AI-driven features
