Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential mobile gaming organization seeking a full-stack Software Engineer to join their Account vertical team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will work within multidisciplinary teams to build and maintain customer-facing journeys including user acquisition, onboarding, account management, and protection features across multiple products.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, building, and maintaining stable, performant software using appropriate technologies and best practices
• Writing simple, extensible code that follows established standards and is thoroughly tested
• Taking ownership of specific product and technology areas, becoming a subject-matter expert
• Actively participating in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews
• Resolving root causes of complex problems and leaving code better than you found it
• Making pragmatic trade-offs and creating flexible software without over-engineering
• Estimating tasks accurately and delivering on time while keeping up to date with industry tools and frameworks
• Making software enhancements that improve team processes and productivity

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience (2+ years preferred)
• Experience writing distributed, highly scalable backend systems and APIs using Java, Python, or similar languages
• Fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms
• Strong grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and concurrency handling
• Knowledge of release-process best practices for APIs and services in production environments
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS
• Understanding of DevOps concepts including containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or Terraform)
• Experience with testing concepts, tools, and integrating testing best practices into the software development lifecycle
• Experience contributing to large web applications using React (JavaScript or TypeScript)
• Experience with design-system libraries
• Cross-browser and native device testing experience
• Understanding of web performance and accessibility standards
• Understanding of Agile software development methodologies
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive with a growth mindset
• Passion for operational excellence and software best practices
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and adapt to change
