Software Engineer, Backend (BI Platform)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a global food-delivery technology company seeking a Software Engineer, Backend (BI Platform) to join their London team. This is a hybrid role based in London, typically requiring 3 days per week in the office.

Our client operates a three-sided marketplace platform serving millions of customers daily. You'll join their Core BI team, building the backend services and infrastructure that power business intelligence across the organization. This is a hands-on platform engineering role focused on automation, APIs, and operational excellence in the BI domain.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and operate backend services, APIs and automation for BI platforms used across the organization
• Automate platform lifecycle operations end-to-end including provisioning, metadata management, permissions, migrations, archival and validation
• Build integrations between BI platforms and the wider data ecosystem: warehouses, identity providers, orchestration tools, CI/CD pipelines and internal developer tooling
• Improve availability, observability, performance, scalability and security of production systems you own
• Leverage AI tooling as part of your engineering workflow and build LLM-backed capabilities where appropriate, maintaining production reliability standards
• Elevate engineering standards through code review, testing, CI/CD practices, documentation and developer experience improvements
• Own problems from discovery through design, implementation, deployment and operational support
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and business teams to deliver self-service capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform or infrastructure systems
• Strong Python skills with readable, maintainable, well-tested code; comfortable with SQL and data modelling concepts
• Production experience building and owning APIs, integrations or automation with sound judgment on service boundaries, authentication, data contracts and failure modes
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, observability, debugging and incident response
• Practical experience using AI tools (LLMs, agentic workflows, AI-assisted development) and judgment about when to apply them
• End-to-end ownership of ambiguous problems with clear communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to self-organize in fast-paced, distributed environments

Preferred:

• Experience with BI platforms (Looker, Sigma or similar) and semantic layers such as LookML or dbt
• Experience automating identity and access through Okta, SCIM or role-based access controls, or building multi-tenant platforms
• Production experience shipping LLM-backed features including retrieval, grounding and evaluation, or working with agent frameworks
