About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI platform company based in Germany that is building production-grade systems for enterprise clients. While others are still demonstrating prototypes, their customers are already working with real data under strict German hosting and compliance requirements.

As Senior Software Engineer, you will own core platform features and architecture—from retrieval systems to frontend interfaces. You'll work in an AI-first environment where coding agents are standard tools, and your technical decisions directly shape product direction.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale distributed systems and microservices with focus on maintainability, stability, and long-term architectural soundness
• Build production-ready AI features including RAG-based knowledge systems, department-specific AI applications, voice interfaces, translation, and analytics capabilities
• Deliver full-stack solutions: performant APIs, data modeling, database design, and modern frontend interfaces
• Implement multi-tenancy data models with role-based permissions, ensuring users cannot access unauthorized information through AI interactions; integrate encryption, data minimization, and audit trails from the start
• Establish observability for AI feature quality, cost, and behavior through evaluations, monitoring, and guardrails that maintain platform stability as usage scales
• Evolve existing systems, create clear structures, and reduce technical debt strategically—eliminating it where costly, accepting it where pragmatic
• Work routinely with coding assistants and agents, extract value beyond autocomplete, and establish team standards for effective AI-assisted development workflows
• Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and consultants to translate customer use cases into technical solutions
• Mentor junior developers through code reviews and knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years developing complex software systems, ideally in AI, SaaS, or cloud environments
• Strong TypeScript skills with Node.js experience; familiarity with frameworks like NestJS preferred
• Solid software architecture knowledge for distributed systems: microservices, API design, and scaling patterns
• Frontend experience with frameworks such as Vue.js and understanding of full-stack interactions
• Strong database skills (PostgreSQL or similar) including data modeling and performance optimization
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent), Docker, and operating SaaS applications
• Routine use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar); you critically evaluate generated code rather than trusting it blindly
• Active experimentation with new tools, models, and workflows; experience with agentic setups, MCP integrations, or automated reviews is a strong plus
• Solid understanding of modern AI/LLM concepts: RAG, function calling, embeddings, or agent architectures
• Clean code practices, testing discipline, and experience conducting thorough code reviews
• Ability to make and clearly communicate technical decisions in German and English
• Experience with GDPR, ISO 27001, or EU AI Act compliance is advantageous

What matters most: Taking ownership, thinking about the product holistically, constructively challenging requirements, and making technical decisions you can justify two years later—pragmatically balanced between perfection and velocity. You might design architecture in the morning, review pull requests at midday, develop features in the afternoon, and mentor team members throughout. If you prefer working through tickets and waiting for instructions, this role won't be the right fit.
