Senior Software Engineer – Core Video & Data

About This Role

We are representing a confidential sports technology client in their search for a Senior Software Engineer to join their Core Data team in London. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems that power sports analysis and video platforms used globally.

You'll be joining a team that builds the foundational systems connecting player identities, game metadata, and sports context across multiple products. This is deeply backend-focused work with significant ownership—you'll design APIs, distributed systems, and data pipelines that ensure consistent, scalable delivery of sports data and video capabilities.

The systems you build will become shared capabilities used across an entire product ecosystem, powering experiences for teams, athletes, and fans worldwide. This role offers the chance to tackle complex engineering challenges around scalability, entity resolution, data consistency, and platform architecture.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership by breaking down complex engineering problems, advocating for best practices, and guiding other engineers while maintaining focus on delivery
• Design and evolve APIs, distributed systems, and large-scale data pipelines that serve as the backbone for sports data and video processing
• Maintain team efficiency by focusing on outcomes over outputs, empowering data-driven decisions and rapid iteration on feedback
• Collaborate with leaders across disciplines to plan and deliver enhancements, integrating diverse perspectives to drive innovation
• Participate actively in Scrum ceremonies and contribute to maintaining strong team culture
• Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural guidance
• Shape technical direction for systems handling identity management, metadata processing, and game context at scale

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in full-stack engineering with strong focus on backend systems
• Proven track record with cloud-based systems and services
• Advocacy and practice of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and CI/CD methodologies
• Experience translating requirements into architectural proposals and guiding implementation
• Collaborative, team-first mindset with willingness to support teammates
• Mentor mentality with experience helping engineers develop through code reviews and pairing
• Strong technical communication skills for working across disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience with C#, GraphQL, Elastic, MongoDB, and AWS
• Background working with video encoding and on-demand rendering at scale
• Interest in sports and understanding of sports analytics
• Experience working effectively with hybrid or remote teams
• Track record building systems that process large volumes of media and data

Location Requirements: This position is based in London and requires regular in-office collaboration. You'll work more days in-office than remote, with flexibility to coordinate your specific schedule with your team. Candidates must be within commuting distance of London.
