VP Engineering, Ongoing Monitoring

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a VP Engineering, Ongoing Monitoring to lead engineering for fraud detection, financial crime prevention, and regulatory risk monitoring. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief Data and Technology Officer, overseeing real-time transaction monitoring, anti-money laundering systems, sanctions screening, and the investigative tooling that supports regulated operations.

You will set engineering strategy and drive execution across multiple value streams, including real-time payment fraud detection, acquiring fraud prevention, counter-terrorist financing, and prohibited activities monitoring. This role requires ownership of machine learning models in production, agentic AI within regulated workflows, and multi-market screening infrastructure that meets regulatory standards.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Setting the engineering strategy for fraud, financial crime, and ongoing monitoring platforms
• Leading engineering teams across backend, frontend, data science, ML engineering, and analytics engineering
• Managing engineering leaders and senior engineers while developing the leadership bench
• Collaborating with stakeholders across risk, operations, business, design, product, and engineering functions
• Owning decision engine and decision intelligence platforms as shared capabilities across domestic and international payment flows
• Managing the complete model lifecycle from development through backtesting, shadow deployment, staged rollout, and production performance monitoring
• Scaling agentic AI in regulated workflows while maintaining governance frameworks
• Delivering measurable outcomes: reduced fraud losses, increased automated alert throughput, and decreased monitoring costs per member
• Building operating models that connect first-line operations, second-line risk and compliance, payments engineering, and data science leadership
• Applying engineering principles to build once and deploy globally while isolating market-specific logic

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a senior engineering leader with deep experience in fraud, financial crime, risk, or real-time decisioning domains within regulated financial services environments.

Required qualifications:

• Proven track record leading engineering organizations in fraud, financial crime, or risk domains
• Demonstrated ability to translate platform investments into measurable business outcomes including fraud detection improvement, unit economics reduction, and workflow automation
• Extensive experience taking machine learning from development into production at scale, owning model performance post-deployment, and enabling rapid model iteration
• Experience operating in regulated environments, working effectively with second-line risk and compliance functions and regulatory bodies
• Strong judgment across organization design, delivery execution, platform strategy, data architecture, and technical quality
• Ability to lead distributed teams across multiple markets and align diverse functions behind unified roadmaps, operating models, and priorities
• Experience deploying AI or agentic systems within regulated workflows with clear governance, evaluation, and human oversight frameworks is highly valued

This is a remote role with team members primarily based in international locations. The position requires comfort working across time zones and leading geographically distributed teams.
