Senior Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential food delivery technology client seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their London team on a hybrid basis (3 days in office). Our client operates a global three-sided marketplace connecting millions of customers, delivery partners, and restaurant partners through sophisticated real-time logistics and scalable infrastructure.

In this role, you'll drive technical excellence across complex backend systems, lead project planning initiatives, and mentor engineering colleagues while helping to scale production systems that handle significant traffic volumes.

Responsibilities

• Improve code structure and architecture across your team's domain, conducting high-impact code reviews to ensure quality and scalability
• Lead technical project planning, identifying dependencies and risks while partnering with Product and Design teams
• Optimize production systems for maintainability, visibility, and operational health
• Build cross-functional relationships to identify collaboration opportunities and influence technical roadmaps
• Provide technical mentorship to colleagues and participate in engineering hiring activities
• Design, build, and operate web-based applications serving millions of users daily
• Break down large technical initiatives and guide implementation across engineering teams

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering principles with deep commitment to readable, well-designed, and well-tested code
• Significant backend development experience building web applications (familiarity with Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust preferred)
• Practical experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL technologies (Redis, DynamoDB, or ElasticSearch)
• Proven ability to manage web architecture at scale (20,000+ requests per minute)
• Technical leadership experience breaking down complex work and guiding engineering teams through implementation
• Experience with real-time systems, marketplace optimization, or logistics platforms is valuable
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, and design functions
