(Senior) Project Engineer – Technische Projektplanung (m/w/d) – PV & BESS Utility Scale

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential renewable energy infrastructure organization seeking a (Senior) Project Engineer for technical project planning of utility-scale photovoltaic and battery storage systems. In this role, you will:

• Plan utility-scale photovoltaic ground-mounted installations with battery energy storage systems from project development through commissioning
• Create, review, and approve planning documentation for PV and BESS installations
• Optimize system designs considering yield, CAPEX, OPEX, constructability, and operational efficiency while evaluating new technologies, components, and system solutions
• Support project teams during tendering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases with your technical expertise
• Contribute to improving engineering standards, design guidelines, and implementing best practices
• Conduct technical reviews, plausibility checks, and quality audits; analyze root causes and derive sustainable improvement measures
• After onboarding, ideally assume technical leadership of internal planning teams and manage external engineering firms as a key technical point of contact

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a candidate with:

• Engineering degree in electrical engineering, energy technology, renewable energy, industrial engineering, or comparable qualification
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in technical planning of utility-scale PV projects in the MW range
• Experience with utility-scale BESS installations is a strong plus
• Strong understanding of DC and AC system design, relevant standards, guidelines, and grid connection requirements
• Proficiency with planning and simulation software such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PVcase, or comparable tools
• Analytical and structured approach with high quality awareness
• Experience in technical leadership of internal teams and/or managing external engineering firms and planning partners is a strong advantage
• Experience developing standards, design guidelines, and quality requirements
• Excellent German and good English language skills, written and spoken
• Confident use of Microsoft 365
