Senior Platform Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing organisation in the charity-tech sector, seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to take ownership of their cloud infrastructure and reliability foundations. This is a hybrid role based in London, requiring three days per week in the office.

Our client operates at significant scale, serving communities across multiple markets with a platform built on modern serverless architecture. You'll be joining at an exciting growth phase where your work will directly enable the engineering organisation to move faster while maintaining the highest standards of security, observability, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evolve cloud infrastructure on AWS, focusing on Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and serverless patterns, using infrastructure as code with CDK and/or Terraform
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions that enable frequent, safe deployments with high confidence
• Drive platform observability through instrumentation, alerting, dashboards, and on-call tooling to enable rapid incident detection and resolution
• Own security and compliance posture including IAM, secrets management, network boundaries, and regulatory requirements
• Identify and implement cost optimisation opportunities, tracking resource utilisation and making cloud spend visible across engineering
• Improve developer experience by reducing toil, streamlining deployment workflows, and establishing clear infrastructure patterns
• Conduct thorough infrastructure code reviews with focus on long-term maintainability and security
• Leverage AI-assisted tooling while applying rigorous judgement to all infrastructure code

What We're Looking For

• Significant experience as a Platform, Infrastructure, or DevOps engineer with strong AWS background and hands-on serverless experience (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, event-driven architectures)
• Production-grade infrastructure as code experience with Terraform and/or AWS CDK, treating infrastructure with the same rigour as application code
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitHub Actions, with proven track record improving deployment reliability and developer velocity
• Deep familiarity with observability tooling and incident response practices, including on-call experience
• Solid understanding of cloud security principles: IAM, least privilege, secrets management, network security, and compliance in regulated environments
• Experience tracking and optimising cloud costs with understanding of reliability trade-offs
• Ability to work closely with engineering teams, translating infrastructure complexity into clear patterns and guardrails
• Clear communication skills with ability to advocate for platform investments to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
