Senior Life Underwriter

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential financial services organization seeking a Senior Life Underwriter to join their team remotely within the United States. Our client operates nationwide, providing insurance and financial products to individuals and businesses across the country.

In this role, you will analyze life insurance applications, assign risk classifications, and make critical underwriting decisions on new business and reinstatements. You'll collaborate with field representatives, medical professionals, and internal stakeholders to evaluate medical, occupational, financial, and lifestyle factors for proper risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite life insurance applications within established corporate guidelines, determining appropriate risk classifications
• Analyze medical, occupational, financial, avocational, and lifestyle information to assess insurability
• Exercise judgment to approve, modify, or decline applications for life, disability, and long-term care insurance products
• Determine additional information requirements and communicate status updates to field representatives
• Work to place applications in the most favorable risk classification possible
• Consult with leadership, medical directors, reinsurers, and other underwriters on complex cases
• Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy standards for all applicant information
• Provide professional guidance to field representatives on application requirements and underwriting processes
• Potentially contribute to the development of competitive underwriting guidelines

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of relevant life underwriting experience or an equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgment in risk assessment
• Excellent communication abilities, with professionalism and empathy when interacting with representatives, applicants, and medical personnel
• Thorough understanding of life insurance underwriting principles and practices
• Ability to interpret medical, financial, and occupational information in the context of risk selection
• Experience with disability and long-term care underwriting is beneficial
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy standards
