Our talent team is representing a confidential aerospace technology client who is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer II for their Cambridge, UK location. As a Senior Hardware Engineer II, you will take ownership of full-stack hardware development for complex modules and systems. You'll work hands-on from concept development through detailed design, analysis, layout, build, test, and delivery. This role also offers technical leadership opportunities, where you'll gain responsibility for critical designs and guide teams of engineers developing innovative products.
Your contributions will directly impact mission-critical systems designed for high-reliability environments, requiring both technical rigor and startup agility. You'll also present engineering design materials to customers and executive leadership, making strong communication skills essential.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end design of complex electronics modules and systems, from concept and architecture through schematic, layout, test, and production
- Lead teams of hardware engineers to develop new multi-module products
- Provide subject matter expertise in support of hardware development across the organization
- Develop hardware architecture and write requirements for highly complex systems
- Perform detailed schematic design for complex boards, covering key components through supporting passives
- Complete PCB layout in Altium Designer for complex boards, collaborating with PCB drafters
- Conduct thorough analysis including worst-case circuit analysis, signal integrity, and power integrity studies
- Develop bring-up and design verification plans for new hardware and integrated systems
- Perform bring-up and verification testing, often leading teams to complete validation
- Release modules and assemblies to production in collaboration with Manufacturing and Test Engineering teams
- Mentor junior and senior engineers to build technical capabilities and professional growth
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 6 years of industry or university research experience in board-level electronics design, analysis, and test
- Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for aerospace or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints
- Proven ownership of design phases for complex board-level electronics, including architecture, trade studies, part selection, and detailed design
- Track record of delivering hardware products through production and deployment
- Expertise in PCB layout and manufacturing, including high-density interconnect (HDI) stackup design and IPC standards
- Expertise in signal integrity and/or power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SIwave, ADS SIPro, or Mentor Hyperlynx
- Strong understanding of software and mechanical engineering to inform hardware system architecture decisions
- Expert-level proficiency in electronics design tools such as Altium
- Extensive lab experience for hardware bring-up and verification using specialized equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience leading hardware engineering teams developing multi-module assemblies
- Design experience for radiation environments
