About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Data Protection Officer to lead their global privacy program. This is a strategic role where you'll partner across legal, product, engineering, information security, marketing, and sales to embed privacy and responsible AI principles into product development and business operations.

Responsibilities
Privacy Program Leadership:
- Own and continuously improve an ISO-certified privacy program end to end, including compliance policies, processes, documentation, and metrics
- Lead and develop the privacy team
- Assist with oversight of the group record retention and management schedule
Compliance Monitoring and Risk Management:
- Monitor and apply privacy compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions and points of sale
- Evaluate business activities across departments to assess compliance risks and controls
- Conduct and participate in audits and privacy compliance monitoring activities
- Perform or supervise Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Legitimate Interests Assessments (LIAs), and Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs)
AI and Data Enablement:
- Serve as a trusted partner to product and engineering teams building and deploying AI features, ensuring privacy principles are embedded from the start
- Advise on privacy implications of AI development, including responsible use of personal data in training and inference
- Develop and deliver privacy, AI, and data compliance training across the organization
- Translate evolving AI and data regulations into actionable business guidance
Cross-Functional Partnership:
- Provide privacy consultancy support at all organizational levels
- Ensure Privacy by Design and Default principles throughout the software development lifecycle
- Support procurement processes for new technologies and AI tooling from a privacy perspective
- Apply data protection principles in due diligence activities, including M&A
- Serve as incident response team member for data breaches in accordance with GDPR and applicable regulations
- Act as point of contact with data protection authorities and data subjects
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience and Qualifications:
- Significant international experience in data protection and privacy within a SaaS or technology environment
- Practical experience as a data protection officer or in a similar statutory privacy role
- Deep knowledge of GDPR and US privacy regulations, including CCPA and CPRA
- Experience managing privacy programs for a data processor, including sub-processor management and data processing agreements
- Strong understanding of how AI and machine learning systems use data and their privacy considerations
- Experience applying Privacy by Design principles to software and AI feature development
- Proven program management skills, including roadmapping, stakeholder alignment, change management, and audit readiness
Highly Valued Additional Experience:
- Familiarity with ISO 27701 or other privacy certification frameworks
- CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM or equivalent privacy certification
- Familiarity with AI-specific risks, including data leakage, bias in training data, and transparency requirements
- Background in data governance or experience with MLOps or data engineering teams
- Experience in CRM or B2B SaaS environments
