VP Engineering, Ongoing Monitoring

Responsibilities

Our talent team is representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a VP Engineering, Ongoing Monitoring, based in Berlin. Reporting to the Chief Data and Technology Officer, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for fraud detection, financial crime monitoring, and regulatory risk systems across all transaction flows.

In this role, you will:

• Set the engineering strategy for fraud, financial crime, and ongoing monitoring platforms
• Lead engineering teams across backend, frontend, data science, ML engineering, and analytics engineering, with distributed teams across multiple locations
• Build and develop the leadership bench, managing managers and senior engineers
• Own decision engine and intelligence platform capabilities, unifying payment flows across markets
• Manage the complete model lifecycle from development through backtesting, shadow deployment, staged rollout, and production performance monitoring
• Scale AI systems within regulated workflows, ensuring governance frameworks are maintained
• Deliver measurable outcomes including reduced fraud losses, higher automated alert throughput, and decreased monitoring costs per member
• Build operating models that connect operations, risk and compliance, payments engineering, and data science leadership
• Apply engineering principles to build once and deploy globally while keeping market-specific logic isolated
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across risk, operations, business, design, product, and engineering functions

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a leader with deep experience in fraud detection, financial crime, and real-time decisioning systems within regulated environments. You should bring:

• Proven experience leading engineering organizations in fraud, financial crime, risk, or real-time decisioning domains
• Strong track record of turning platform investments into measurable outcomes across fraud detection, mitigation, unit economics reduction, and workflow automation
• Experience taking machine learning from development into production at scale, owning model performance in live environments and enabling fast iteration
• Experience operating in regulated environments, working with risk and compliance functions and regulators
• Strong judgment across organization design, delivery, platform strategy, data architecture, and technical quality
• Ability to lead distributed teams across multiple markets and align several functions behind unified roadmaps, operating models, and priorities
• Experience deploying AI or agentic systems inside regulated workflows with clear views on governance, evaluation, and human oversight is highly valued

Pay
