Join Geisinger as a Data Scientist Team Lead, overseeing a dynamic team across multiple regions including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States. This full-time position offers the opportunity to drive advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives while building and mentoring a high-performing team of data professionals.

About the Role

As Data Scientist Team Lead at Geisinger, you'll combine technical expertise with people leadership to shape the organization's data science strategy. Your dual focus—splitting time between hands-on development and team management—allows you to stay technically engaged while guiding colleagues through complex data challenges in healthcare. You'll work closely with clinicians, operational teams, and product managers to identify high-impact problems and translate them into data-driven solutions. This role bridges data science capabilities with organizational strategy, ensuring analytics efforts directly support patient care and operational excellence.

Your Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage a team of data scientists and analysts, providing coaching and clear direction to develop their careers
  • Conduct performance reviews and create tailored development plans that strengthen team capabilities and identify growth opportunities
  • Establish and enforce data science standards, best practices, and quality assurance protocols across all projects and deliverables
  • Lead code reviews and mentor team members on software engineering, statistical rigor, and machine learning model governance
  • Spend approximately 50% of your time in active development—designing, building, and deploying machine learning models for clinical applications such as risk stratification, diagnostic support, treatment planning, and resource optimization
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and assess feasibility, risks, and implementation strategies for adoption
  • Work with senior leadership to define data science roadmaps and prioritize projects that align with organizational goals
  • Translate clinical and operational requirements into actionable data science initiatives with measurable outcomes
  • Monitor project delivery, manage timelines, and adjust plans to ensure consistent, high-quality results
  • Maintain system integrity and security in compliance with Geisinger's data governance and AI oversight standards

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning; advanced degrees can substitute (Master's degree equals 2 years, PhD equals 4 years)
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and statistical modeling techniques
  • Demonstrated experience building, validating, and deploying machine learning solutions
  • Proven track record in leadership, team management, and mentoring technical professionals
  • Experience translating business and clinical problems into analytical frameworks
  • Knowledge of healthcare data formats and sources such as Epic Clarity, HL7, and DICOM is advantageous
  • Familiarity with quality and safety analytics, Databricks, and emerging technologies including large language models and generative AI is highly valued
