Senior Data Scientist – Credit Risk Modelling

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join their Credit Risk Modelling practice. Our client operates in the small business lending sector, where probabilistic machine learning drives every credit decision across multiple markets.

This is a hybrid or remote position based in London, offering the chance to shape credit risk and customer lifetime value modelling at scale. You'll lead multi-quarter technical initiatives, from identifying gaps in the modelling infrastructure through to delivering commercial impact.

Responsibilities

• Own credit and CLtV modelling projects end to end, from identifying business constraints through research, development, deployment, and measurement of impact
• Maintain and evolve production models, balancing incremental improvements with research that fundamentally reshapes how models operate
• Set technical direction across the modelling stack, including work on unified cost functions, multi-stage credit models, and generalized frameworks
• Lead research into new methodologies, leveraging AI to prototype ideas that were previously below the viability threshold
• Elevate team standards through mentorship, code review, and thoughtful technical challenge
• Communicate complex modelling decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Strong statistical foundations from a quantitative discipline, with fluency in probability, uncertainty quantification, and model calibration
• Proven experience building and shipping supervised ML models in production environments—exploration, training, deployment, and monitoring
• Research mindset with a track record of proactively exploring new approaches and identifying step-change opportunities
• Demonstrated judgement in critically evaluating model outputs and defending technical choices under scrutiny; experience influencing technical direction beyond your own work
• End-to-end project leadership, including framing problems, selecting methods, shipping solutions, and landing business outcomes
• AI fluency—using generative models as a primary productivity tool for prototyping, automation, and feasibility studies
• Clear, direct communication adapted to your audience

Bonus:

• Domain experience in credit risk, lending, or customer lifetime value modelling
• Production experience with gradient boosting or neural networks on tabular data
• Bayesian methods including hierarchical models, MCMC, or Bayesian updating
• Time series modelling with attention to autocorrelation, drift, or seasonality
• Python proficiency

Pay
