Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby), AI Engineering: AI Coding

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential DevSecOps platform client seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their AI Events team. In this role, you will build and maintain the event platform and trigger system that powers AI-driven workflows across the development lifecycle.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Designing and building trigger systems that connect development events—code pushes, merge requests, issue changes, CI/CD pipeline results, and deployments—to AI-powered workflows
• Integrating third-party events from tools such as Jira, Jenkins, and Slack into the platform's event infrastructure
• Contributing to the core event platform that enables AI features to execute automatically in response to system events
• Architecting solutions for high availability and throughput, ensuring reliable event processing at scale
• Working primarily within a Rails monolith while collaborating across a multi-service environment
• Proposing iterative solutions to complex technical problems and influencing product and architecture direction
• Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to shape platform capabilities
• Participating in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations to support production systems in a globally distributed environment

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a senior-level engineer with proven experience building production systems at scale. The ideal candidate brings:

• Deep expertise with Ruby and Rails, including hands-on experience shipping production code within large, established monoliths
• Proven track record building user-facing products that integrate large language models into real workflows (not training or building ML models, but integrating them effectively)
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating high-availability, high-throughput systems in production environments
• Hands-on experience with agentic systems and autonomous AI workflows that take action without human intervention
• Ability to make progress in rapidly evolving problem spaces and learn new AI capabilities quickly
• Strong written communication skills for effective async collaboration in a remote, distributed team
• Experience with Python is helpful, as is familiarity with DevSecOps platforms and tooling

This is a remote position available globally, working with a small, close-knit team primarily based in Europe. The team operates async-first, with communication through written updates and regular one-on-ones. You'll have significant autonomy and ownership over your work while collaborating on cutting-edge AI infrastructure.

Pay
