Senior Backend Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential B2B trading platform seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to take full ownership of backend architecture and development. In this role, you will:

• Own backend development from end to end, including technology selection, architecture design, and implementing features that drive platform performance and scale
• Build AI-first solutions, integrating coding agents, LLMs, and AI-assisted development into daily workflows
• Define and enforce code quality standards, development practices, and CI/CD pipelines across the engineering organization
• Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and elevate backend engineering practices across the team
• Challenge existing approaches and introduce better solutions when current methods fall short

What We're Looking For

Our client needs an experienced backend engineer who brings:

• 8+ years in software engineering with 5+ years focused on backend development
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript with strong Node.js, NestJS, and PostgreSQL experience
• Proven mentorship track record, having coached engineers and raised technical standards
• Solid command of Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working in Scrum or Kanban environments using JIRA and Confluence
• English proficiency at C1 level for daily collaboration with an international team
• AI-native working style with practical experience using AI tools in your development workflow
• Current Berlin location or willingness to relocate

Bonus skills: WebSockets or real-time systems, search frameworks like Elasticsearch or Lucene, automotive or B2B trading background, conversational German

Work Arrangement and Benefits

This is a hybrid position based in central Berlin requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote work.
