Senior Backend Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential B2B trading technology organization based in Munich. This is a senior backend engineering role where you will own the full technical lifecycle—not just implement tickets. You will be responsible for selecting technology, designing architecture, and setting the standards that define how the platform scales across international markets.

• Own backend development end to end: make technology decisions, design system architecture, and implement features that drive platform performance and scale
• Build with AI-first principles: integrate coding agents, LLMs, and AI-assisted development into daily workflow
• Set and enforce engineering standards: define code quality benchmarks, establish development practices, and own CI/CD pipeline design
• Mentor engineers on your team, share knowledge actively, and raise the bar on backend practice across the organization
• Challenge existing approaches: when current methods fall short, speak up and propose better solutions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 8+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years focused on backend development
• Deep TypeScript proficiency, with strong Node.js, NestJS, and PostgreSQL experience
• Proven mentorship track record: you have coached engineers and raised technical standards on previous teams
• Solid command of Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Comfortable working in Scrum or Kanban environments, with experience using JIRA and Confluence
• English at C1 level, written and spoken, for daily work with an international team
• AI-native working style: you actively use AI tools in your development workflow and can evaluate where they add value
• Based in Munich, Germany

Nice to have:

• Experience with WebSockets or other real-time systems
• Knowledge of search frameworks such as Elasticsearch or Lucene
• Background in automotive or B2B trading platforms
• Conversational German
