Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/x)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential software organization in Berlin that is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing development team. Our client builds sophisticated data analysis tools used by researchers and institutions worldwide, and they need an experienced backend engineer to help scale their AWS-based infrastructure.

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin, offering the flexibility to work from a modern office near the city center as well as remotely. You'll be working on cloud architecture, API development, and system optimization in a collaborative, agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain AWS backend architecture using modern cloud-native patterns
• Implement efficient Lambda functions using various frameworks and technologies
• Introduce and maintain comprehensive testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
• Optimize system performance and scalability, working with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB caching solutions
• Establish and uphold professional development and documentation standards using tools like Poetry and GitHub Actions
• Maintain critical interfaces between multiple product systems, account management, and desktop applications
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including frontend developers, AI engineers, QA engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers
• Contribute to an agile team culture and participate actively in Scrum or Kanban processes

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years of professional experience in backend development with Python
• Strong proficiency with TypeScript or JavaScript, and experience with Boto3 or similar AWS SDKs
• Demonstrated expertise with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, or comparable technologies
• Solid hands-on experience with databases including PostgreSQL, SQL, DynamoDB, and ORM implementations
• Extensive knowledge of AWS services (particularly Lambdas and S3) or other cloud platforms like Azure or GCP, with willingness to specialize in AWS
• Practical experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and dependency management tools like Poetry, UV, or PIP
• Proven track record with test automation and agile development methodologies
• Understanding of software performance optimization, scalability principles, and design pattern implementation
• Strong initiative, excellent communication skills, and collaborative teamwork abilities
• German language skills are beneficial but not required; English proficiency is essential
