We are representing a confidential music streaming organization seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their commerce platform team in London. This role sits at the intersection of payments, billing, and subscription infrastructure—powering financial systems that handle millions of transactions daily across global markets.

Our client operates one of the world's most recognized digital subscription platforms, and you'll be building the backend systems that enable seamless purchase flows, invoicing, and payment processing for their user base worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems for commerce and payment infrastructure
• Develop services and data pipelines supporting invoicing, receipts, and transaction flows
• Work on high-scale distributed systems processing millions of daily transactions
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners across engineering, product, and data teams
• Contribute to architectural decisions shaping the future of commerce systems
• Improve system performance, reliability, and observability across backend services
• Participate in code reviews, technical deep dives, and knowledge-sharing within the engineering community
• Modernize and evolve legacy systems while maintaining production stability

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience building backend services using Python, Java, or similar languages
• Experience designing and scaling systems on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS
• Hands-on work with scalable database technologies like Postgres or equivalent
• Strong AI fluency with thoughtful use of modern tools, including LLMs, to enhance workflows
• Problem-solving approach characterized by curiosity, sound judgment, and bias toward action
• Clear communication skills and confidence leading technical discussions
• Collaborative mindset with active contribution to inclusive team environments
• Experience modernizing legacy systems while maintaining stability
• Exposure to commerce, payments, or financial systems is highly valued

Location: London, with flexibility to work remotely. Some in-person meetings required.
