Senior Backend Developer

About This Role

Our talent team is representing a confidential technology consulting organization seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join their distributed engineering team. This is a 100% remote, full-time W2 position based in the United States.

You'll be designing and building the core platform infrastructure that engineering teams across the organization depend on—high-throughput routing systems, traffic management layers, caching architectures, asynchronous job execution frameworks, and durable event processing pipelines. This is a platform engineering role focused on creating exceptional internal developer experiences while maintaining reliability at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate foundational platforms and shared services consumed by multiple engineering teams
• Develop backend platform capabilities including request routing, traffic management, data fan-out, and caching layers
• Build asynchronous job execution and durable event processing systems that handle high traffic volumes with predictable latency
• Lead multi-quarter platform initiatives that raise the engineering bar across the organization
• Author technical design documents and present architectural trade-offs to stakeholders
• Mentor engineers through code review, design review, and onboarding contributions
• Shape engineering culture and platform standards across distributed teams
• Manage technical decision-making and stakeholder relationships for platform-wide initiatives

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or closely related technical discipline
• 8+ years of professional backend or platform engineering experience
• Proven track record building and operating internal platforms or shared services for multiple engineering teams
• Strong expertise designing distributed systems with rigorous attention to consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes
• Advanced proficiency in at least one major backend language: Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++
• Deep understanding of high-throughput messaging, streaming, and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pulsar, NATS)
• Strong working knowledge of data storage systems across relational, key-value, document, and search workloads
• Experience leading multi-quarter platform initiatives including stakeholder management and technical decision-making
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated mentorship ability and contributions to engineering culture
• Authorization to work in the United States (U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders, EAD Holders, and H-1B transfer candidates welcome; no new H-1B sponsorship available)

Preferred:

• Experience operating Kubernetes-based platforms or internal developer-platform initiatives at scale
• Contributions to widely-used open-source platform or infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with control-plane/data-plane patterns, service mesh internals, or workflow-orchestration engines
• Experience designing platform APIs with strong backward-compatibility and versioning guarantees
• Public technical writing, conference talks, or community contributions on platform engineering topics

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $100,000–$110,000 annually
