Safety Specialist

Shared Medical Services is seeking a Safety Specialist to join its team in Cottage Grove, Dane County, where the employee‑owned mobile medical imaging provider delivers imaging services across the nation.

About the Role

The Safety Specialist will support a culture of safety by developing, implementing, and monitoring programs that protect employees, patients, and visitors while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

What You'll Do

• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments at imaging sites and support facilities
• Develop and update safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans aligned with OSHA and other regulatory standards
• Investigate incidents, near‑misses, and injuries; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions
• Design and deliver safety training sessions for staff, including new‑hire orientations and annual refresher courses
• Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and logs required for audits and regulatory submissions
• Collaborate with department managers to identify risks and implement practical control measures
• Stay current with changes in occupational health and safety legislation and advise leadership on impact
• Assist in the selection and proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field preferred
• Proven experience in a safety coordinator, specialist, or similar role, preferably within healthcare or medical services
• Solid understanding of OSHA regulations, hazard communication, and injury prevention best practices
• Ability to conduct effective training presentations and communicate safety concepts clearly to diverse audiences
• Strong observational and analytical skills for identifying hazards and developing solutions
• Proficiency with safety management software, Microsoft Office, and basic data tracking tools
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset to work alongside clinical and operational teams
• Certifications such as OSHA 30‑hour General Industry, CSP, or ASP are advantageous but not required
