Research Engineer in Data

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology organization in their search for a Research Engineer in Data. This is a hybrid or remote position based in Europe, working with cutting-edge generative AI systems at scale.

The Data team at our client manages the complete lifecycle of data for research teams—from sourcing and large-scale processing to delivering datasets that power production models. You'll work with over a million hours of video and audio data, building sophisticated pipelines that sit at the intersection of applied research, data engineering, and ML infrastructure.

This role focuses on creating and maintaining a world-class human-centric data lake, collaborating closely with model training teams to extract new features and annotations that elevate dataset quality. You'll have the opportunity to influence both day-to-day operations and longer-term strategy for a team whose infrastructure is already strong and ready for the next level of sophistication.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance large-scale data processing pipelines that support generative AI model development
• Collaborate with model training teams to understand their requirements and deliver high-quality, accurately annotated datasets
• Extract new features and annotations from video and audio data to improve model performance
• Design and implement data curation, labeling, and evaluation workflows
• Maintain and evolve workflow orchestration systems for processing at scale
• Drive data quality initiatives that directly impact model outcomes
• Contribute to the team's technical strategy and roadmap

What We're Looking For

• Strong background in data-centric, applied Machine Learning with proven experience improving model performance through data quality, curation, labeling, and evaluation rather than architecture changes alone
• Experience working on the data layer of Generative AI products, particularly involving images, video, or audio
• Excellent Python skills with a strong focus on writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Experience designing, building, and operating workflow orchestration systems and large-scale data processing pipelines (nice to have)
• Passion for delivering high-quality datasets that enable breakthrough model capabilities
• Collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills for working with research teams
