About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential research organization in Köln, Germany. We are seeking a Research Data Manager at the postdoctoral level to lead a strategic project focused on mapping metadata harvesting relationships across research data services.
This is a three-year, full-time position starting October 1, 2026. You will work at the intersection of research data management, metadata technologies, and community coordination to improve the visibility and quality of research metadata across German data infrastructures.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate a research project aimed at mapping how metadata flows between data services and identifying transformation processes
- Develop automated systems for metadata collection leveraging AI tools and technologies
- Build and maintain relationships within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and related research data organizations
- Organize networking events and promote project goals across relevant communities
- Conduct research in knowledge technologies, information extraction, and semantic technologies
- Collaborate with data services and harvesters to establish best practices for metadata presentation and exchange
What We're Looking For
- Completed PhD in Computer Science, Social Science, Information Science, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in Research Data Management, ideally within NFDI or similar research infrastructure contexts
- Hands-on technical experience with harvesting, curating, extracting, or managing research metadata at scale
- Experience with services that collect or aggregate research metadata
- Proven research record in relevant areas such as knowledge graphs, information extraction, or semantic technologies
- Excellent English communication skills required; German language skills are a strong advantage
- Strong networking capabilities and ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholder communities
