Join Backus Hospital as a Registered Nurse – Graduate Nurse (RN, GN) in our Oncology A2 unit, located in Jewett City, New London County, Connecticut. As a full-time member of our nursing team at this Hartford HealthCare facility, you'll provide compassionate, evidence-based care to oncology patients during a critical time in their healthcare journey.

About the Role

This position offers graduate nurses an opportunity to develop clinical expertise in oncology nursing while working alongside experienced RN mentors and interdisciplinary care teams. You'll practice in a supportive environment designed to build your skills and confidence as you transition from nursing school into professional practice.

What You'll Do

• Deliver direct patient care to individuals receiving cancer treatment and supportive therapy
• Monitor vital signs, assess treatment response, and communicate significant changes to the care team
• Administer medications, including chemotherapy agents, under appropriate supervision and per Hartford HealthCare protocols
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and electronic health records
• Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members
• Provide emotional support, education, and advocacy for patients and families navigating cancer care
• Maintain a safe, clean care environment and follow infection control and safety standards
• Participate in orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development activities

What We're Looking For

• Current Connecticut RN license or Graduate Nurse permit (or eligibility to obtain)
• Recent graduate of an accredited nursing program or currently enrolled in final clinical rotations
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Genuine compassion for patients and commitment to quality, person-centered care
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced healthcare setting
• Openness to learning and adapting in clinical environments
• Comfort with electronic health records and computer systems
