Certified Lactation Consultant (RN, IBCLC) – Family Birthing Center

Backus Hospital in Jewett City, New London County seeks a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse Certified Lactation Consultant (RN, IBCLC) to support new families in our Family Birthing Center. This per diem position offers scheduling flexibility, with preference for availability including weekend and evening shifts.

About the Role

As a Certified Lactation Consultant on our Family Birthing Center team, you'll provide specialized nursing support to postpartum patients and their newborns during one of life's most meaningful transitions. You'll partner with our obstetric and pediatric nursing staff to ensure families have the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need for successful breastfeeding.

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive lactation assessments for postpartum patients and newborns
• Develop individualized feeding plans addressing latch difficulties, milk supply concerns, and pain management
• Educate families on positioning, attachment techniques, and milk expression methods
• Monitor infant weight gain and feeding progress, documenting findings in patient records
• Collaborate with nurses, midwives, physicians, and pediatricians to coordinate comprehensive care
• Provide emotional support and counseling to families navigating breastfeeding decisions
• Stay current with evidence-based lactation practices and clinical guidelines

What We're Looking For

• Active RN license in Connecticut or ability to obtain licensure
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
• Clinical experience in postpartum nursing or lactation consulting
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based care environment
• Compassionate approach to family-centered care
• Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends and evenings
