Registered Nurse – Graduate Nurse (RN, GN) – Surgical A4

Join Backus Hospital in Hope Valley as a full-time Registered Nurse or Graduate Nurse in our Surgical A4 unit. This overnight position offers 36 hours weekly on a 7:00 PM–7:30 AM rotating shift schedule, with every-other-weekend rotation and rotating holiday assignments. You'll deliver compassionate, evidence-based surgical nursing in a healthcare environment where every patient interaction drives meaningful clinical outcomes.

About the Role

As an RN or GN on Surgical A4, you'll be part of the Hartford HealthCare system—serving Connecticut's largest integrated healthcare network. You'll provide direct patient care in a fast-paced surgical unit where clinical excellence, patient safety, and interdisciplinary teamwork are foundational.

What You'll Do

• Deliver comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care to surgical patients
• Monitor vital signs, assess patient status, and respond promptly to changes in clinical condition
• Manage IV therapy, wound care, and other clinical interventions per physician orders
• Educate patients and families about post-operative expectations and discharge requirements
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in electronic health records
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians during patient procedures
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control, patient safety, and regulatory protocols
• Advocate for patient needs and comfort within a patient-centered care model

What We're Looking For

• Current RN license or valid Graduate Nurse authorization in Connecticut
• Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic surgical environment
