Backus Hospital, part of Connecticut's largest healthcare network, is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Graduate Nurse (GN) to join the Oncology A2 unit in Chaplin. About the Role
As an RN or GN on our Oncology A2 team, you'll deliver evidence-based patient care during some of your patients' most vulnerable moments. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team that combines clinical excellence with genuine compassion, supporting individuals and families navigating cancer treatment.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients, including medication administration, chemotherapy support, and symptom management
- Monitor vital signs, assess patient status, and report changes to the care team promptly
- Administer treatments per physician orders and established protocols, including chemotherapy under appropriate supervision
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, side effect management, and self-care strategies
- Maintain accurate, timely medical records and documentation
- Collaborate with physicians, oncologists, social workers, and palliative care specialists to coordinate holistic patient care
- Support patients' emotional and psychosocial needs with empathy and professionalism
- Contribute to a culture of safety, quality improvement, and professional development
What We're Looking For
- Valid Connecticut RN license or Graduate Nurse permit (GN pursuing RN licensure)
- Completion of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
- Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
- Ability to work compassionately in a fast-paced, complex healthcare setting
- Commitment to patient safety, dignity, and person-centered care
- Willingness to learn and grow professionally in oncology nursing
