About the Role

As an RN or GN in our Step Down Medicine department, you'll deliver direct patient care to individuals progressing from intensive care settings. Working 12-hour shifts—either on a day/night rotating schedule or permanent nights—you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to monitor vital signs, administer medications, manage drains and wound care, and educate patients on their conditions and discharge planning. You'll engage with patients and families during a critical phase of their recovery, building trust and ensuring continuity of care.

What You'll Do

  • Assess and monitor patient health status throughout each shift
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions per physician orders
  • Document patient progress and communicate changes in condition to the care team
  • Support patients and families with education and emotional support during recovery
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate individualized care plans
  • Maintain a safe, clean care environment and follow infection control protocols
  • Participate in unit-based quality and safety initiatives

What We're Looking For

  • Current Connecticut RN license or Graduate Nurse (GN) status with intent to pursue licensure
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Physical stamina for 12-hour shifts involving standing, walking, and patient mobility assistance

Scheduling
