Principal Supplier Quality Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential agtech hardware company in their search for a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer based in China. This is a senior technical role for someone who can operate autonomously across Asia, leading supplier audits, solving complex quality problems on the ground, and building supplier capability.

This position requires deep manufacturing expertise, fluency in both English and Mandarin, and the ability to drive real corrective action—not just paperwork. You'll be the technical bridge between Asian component suppliers and engineering teams, ensuring that parts meet exacting standards before they reach contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

You will lead technically rigorous supplier audits across Asia, going well beyond compliance checklists to assess process control, measurement capability, and the actual reliability of production and inspection methods. You'll conduct pre-qualification audits of new suppliers and run surveillance audits to verify sustained quality performance.

When quality issues arise, you'll own resolution from the ground up—working on-site with supplier engineers to conduct first-principles root cause analysis, develop effective corrective actions, and coach supplier teams to build their own problem-solving capability. You'll implement and maintain quality assurance specifications at suppliers, working with design teams to refine standards based on field experience and audit findings.

You'll support part approval activities, track corrective actions to closure, and collaborate with contract manufacturing quality teams when incoming inspection failures point to supplier-side process issues. Throughout, you'll build genuine technical relationships with suppliers, creating the credibility needed for difficult conversations and structured improvement plans.

What We're Looking For

• 15+ years of experience in supplier quality or manufacturing quality for complex electromechanical hardware, with a proven track record solving difficult quality problems at suppliers
• Deep manufacturing and process engineering knowledge—you understand how parts are made, what drives variation, and how to assess whether a process is truly in control
• Exceptional audit capability that uncovers real quality risks and produces findings that drive meaningful improvement, not superficial compliance
• Strong first-principles thinking and root cause analysis skills
• High proficiency in both English and Mandarin (written, verbal, reading) to work directly with Chinese engineering teams without translation
• Comfortable operating autonomously across a supplier portfolio, managing priorities and escalating appropriately without close supervision
• Firm, fair, and direct communication style with suppliers—you hold high standards while maintaining productive relationships
• Willingness to travel regularly across APAC; significant time will be spent on-site at suppliers
• Master's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred
