Responsibilities
Our talent team is representing a confidential aerospace organization seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer I for their Milton Keynes location. In this role, you will:
- Design and implement software for embedded devices and systems from requirements through production and commercial deployment
- Design, develop, code, test, debug, and document system software for complex aerospace applications
- Review code and system designs, analyzing for efficiency, stability, and scalability
- Integrate and validate new product designs across the software stack
- Support software quality assurance and optimize I/O performance
- Provide post-production customer support and troubleshooting
- Interface directly with hardware design and development engineers
- Assess third-party and open-source software components
- Present engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
- Participate in proposal-writing efforts for new projects
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
- 9+ years of industry experience in software development
- Hands-on development and troubleshooting experience with embedded hardware
- API design experience for interfacing with FPGAs
- Experience developing products for aerospace applications
- Strong programming skills in C or C++
- Experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems
- Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review processes
- Excellent knowledge of real-time system coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems
- Strong understanding of multi-threaded applications and resource management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with real-time Linux environments
- Ability to read electronics schematics and component data sheets
- Experience with ARM processors and fully-featured microcontrollers
- Experience designing and developing Software Development Kits (SDK)
