Manufacturing Engineer II

Wabtec is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II in Buffalo Grove, Illinois to join our engineering team on a full-time basis. In this role, you'll drive improvements in manufacturing processes and equipment performance while collaborating with production and quality teams to optimize operational efficiency.

Position Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineer II at Wabtec, you will take a lead role in designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes and systems. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with cross-functional leadership, requiring you to analyze production data, identify bottlenecks, and develop data-driven solutions that increase throughput, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. You'll work within a dynamic engineering environment where your contributions directly impact Wabtec's competitive position in the transportation technology sector.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain strict quality standards
• Conduct root cause analysis on production issues and implement corrective actions
• Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and internal teams to troubleshoot and upgrade production systems
• Develop process documentation, standard work procedures, and work instructions for manufacturing teams
• Monitor manufacturing metrics and KPIs, presenting findings and recommendations to management
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies
• Support equipment procurement and validation activities to ensure manufacturing capability
• Train and mentor production operators and technicians on new processes and best practices

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering discipline
• 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in a heavy industrial or transportation setting
• Strong proficiency with CAD software, statistical analysis tools, and manufacturing simulation software
• Working knowledge of machining, assembly, fabrication, or process manufacturing
• Demonstrated experience leading or supporting continuous improvement projects
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and technical documentation abilities
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management systems
