Junior Complaints & Compliance Specialist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Junior Complaints & Compliance Specialist to join their operations team in Berlin. This is an office-first role supporting merchants through payment-related inquiries and regulatory compliance matters. Our client processes high volumes of transactions for small businesses across multiple markets, and this role exists to ensure fair, timely resolution of complex payment issues.

As a specialist on the complaints team, you'll investigate root causes of payment failures, draft compliant merchant responses, and work cross-functionally with risk, engineering, and finance teams to resolve escalated cases. This is an excellent opportunity to build deep technical knowledge of payment processing while developing regulatory compliance skills in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve merchant complaints related to payment processing, including authorizations, settlements, payouts, and chargebacks
• Analyze processor logs, payment gateways, and payout systems to identify root causes and document findings clearly
• Draft regulatory-compliant final responses to merchants that meet strict timelines and internal service level agreements
• Collaborate with payment operations, risk, engineering, and finance teams to unblock complex cases
• Maintain audit-ready case documentation and identify emerging patterns or recurring issues for escalation
• Contribute to internal playbooks and knowledge base articles to improve team efficiency

What We're Looking For

• Foundational understanding of payment processing, including authorizations, settlements, payouts, and basic chargeback mechanics
• Experience working with CRM or ticketing systems, following standard operating procedures, and maintaining precise documentation
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, customer-friendly responses under regulatory constraints
• Fluency in English and Italian for communicating with merchants and stakeholders in both languages
• Ability to stay organized and calm under pressure, prioritizing cases against strict deadlines and escalating appropriately when needed
• Comfort working in an office-first environment in Berlin
