About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential multi-asset financial services organization currently scaling across multiple jurisdictions. Our client is at a critical inflection point—managing parallel licensing processes across FX, CFDs, digital assets, and alternative trading platforms while pursuing strategic acquisitions in emerging markets. They need a Group Chief Compliance & Legal Officer to build and own the compliance architecture that will support this expansion.

This is a fully remote role with preference for EU timezone alignment to facilitate collaboration with regional offices. Occasional travel will be required for regulator meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities

You will report directly to the CEO and lead compliance personnel embedded across the organization's business units. Your mandate includes:

• Build group-wide compliance infrastructure: Establish a structured compliance reporting framework within three months, providing executive leadership with clear visibility of regulatory posture across all entities and jurisdictions.
• Deploy AI-enabled legal operations: Within six months, deliver a searchable, indexed repository of all legal documentation—agreements, licenses, policies, regulatory correspondence—structured for AI-assisted retrieval and cross-referencing.
• Set and enforce internal legal SLAs: Define service-level agreements for contract reviews (24-hour turnaround), new contract drafting (48 hours), and policy development, with tracking and accountability mechanisms.
• Drive active licensing and M&A pipeline: Own delivery against live regulatory applications and acquisition targets across UAE, South Africa, Norway, LATAM, and Southeast Asia—managing timelines, regulator relationships, and integration planning.
• Manage all regulatory relationships: Serve as primary point of contact for regulators across jurisdictions, preparing responses, coordinating inquiries, and representing the organization's compliance position with consistency.
• Implement risk monitoring systems: Deploy tooling to provide ongoing visibility of regulatory and legal risk exposure across all business verticals and target markets.
• Oversee legal and compliance communications: Manage inbound and outbound communications across the function, ensuring appropriate escalation and audit trails.
• Research emerging regulatory requirements: Track legislative developments, regulatory guidance, and enforcement trends across all operating jurisdictions to maintain current risk visibility.

What We're Looking For

Non-negotiable requirements (typically developed over 10+ years of multi-jurisdictional work):

• Multi-jurisdictional regulatory knowledge: Demonstrated command of tier-one regimes (CySEC, FCA, NFA, ASIC) and emerging-market frameworks (UAE, Mauritius, Seychelles, Cambodia), with working knowledge of MiCA and digital asset licensing regimes globally.
• Regulator-facing credibility: Proven confidence and competence in direct regulator engagement—managing inquiries, coordinating responses, and representing compliance positions across jurisdictions. Active regulator relationships need an owner from day one.

Strong advantages:

• M&A and licensing fluency: Experience supporting acquisition structuring and entity integration from a compliance perspective—assessing regulatory exposure and managing parallel licensing processes.
• AI-enabled legal operations: Track record deploying AI tooling in legal workflows (document retrieval, contract review, risk monitoring), or a concrete plan for rapid adoption with demonstrated aptitude.
• Function leadership: Ability to set standards, delegate effectively, and hold teams accountable for throughput—running compliance and legal operations at scale without becoming a bottleneck.

Likely background: Chief Compliance Officer at a multi-jurisdictional broker or digital asset exchange; Head of Compliance at a tier-one regulated firm ready to step into group-level ownership; Regulatory Affairs Director with licensing expertise across multiple jurisdictions; M&A Compliance Lead in financial services; or Senior Legal Counsel / Head of Legal at a retail broker or exchange with compliance responsibility.

Pay

Compensation for this role is bespoke and will be structured based on the successful candidate's experience and expectations. The package will be competitive with the mandate's scope and complexity, consisting of base salary plus performance bonus tied to agreed KPIs.
