Staff/Lead Software Developer (AI Agents & Integrations)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential developer tools organization seeking a Staff/Lead Software Developer to shape the future of AI-assisted development for C++ workflows. This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role focused on prototyping, implementing, and validating AI-powered capabilities rather than people management.

In this role, you will:

• Shape and deliver AI-powered features for C++ development workflows and IDE integrations
• Design architecture for AI agent tools, including tool calling, context management, and evaluation frameworks
• Build practical benchmarks and validation systems for AI-assisted development scenarios
• Prototype new AI workflows covering debugging, code understanding, refactoring, and project navigation
• Collaborate with product managers, ML engineers, and stakeholders to define and deliver the technical roadmap
• Evaluate and prioritize AI initiatives, bringing proposals that align with broader product strategy
• Contribute hands-on to technical design and implementation within a large, mature codebase
• Define how coding agents can integrate effectively with IDE capabilities for C++ developers
• Build alignment across engineering, AI, product, and quality assurance teams

Example challenges include: making coding agents more effective with large C++ codebases, integrating debugging and navigation into AI workflows, establishing benchmarks for real-world scenarios, and determining what capabilities AI agents should access inside modern development environments.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant software engineering experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Technical Lead, or equivalent senior technical role
• Strong experience with Kotlin, Java, or other JVM technologies, or ability to become productive quickly in JVM-based codebases
• Experience building AI-powered products, developer tools, coding assistants, agents, or LLM-based workflows
• Strong understanding of modern coding agents, including tool calling, context management, and evaluation techniques
• Track record of driving technical direction in ambiguous and rapidly evolving problem spaces
• Strong product instincts with ability to balance innovation and practical delivery
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence without formal authority

Nice to have:

• Experience with C++ development workflows, compilers, debuggers, language tooling, or developer productivity products
• Experience with IDE internals, language servers, code analysis, refactoring systems, or static analysis
• Experience leading small teams or acting as a technical lead
• Background working on AI-native developer products
