The Opportunity
We're looking for a skilled Subtitling Linguist who specializes in translating English into Romanian. As a Freelance Subtitling Linguist, you'll play a vital role in making professional media content accessible to Romanian-speaking audiences. This full-time remote role offers the flexibility and autonomy of freelance work with consistent project flow, allowing you to deliver high-quality subtitles from anywhere in Romania.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Translate English dialogue and text into Romanian subtitles, preserving tone, meaning, and cultural nuance
- Ensure accurate synchronization and timing of subtitles with video content
- Edit and review subtitle files for grammar, spelling, consistency, and readability
- Adapt language for different media formats including films, television series, documentaries, and online content
- Work within technical subtitle file formats and software platforms
- Maintain detailed records of translations and meet strict project deadlines
What You Bring
- Native or near-native fluency in both English and Romanian
- Proven experience translating subtitles or similar localization work
- Familiarity with subtitling software and subtitle file formats (SRT, VTT, etc.)
- Deep understanding of Romanian culture, idioms, and regional language variations
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong time-management skills to meet production schedules independently
