Founding Product Designer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential regtech company that is transforming how compliance works in regulated industries. Our client has built genuine traction with major financial institutions and recently closed significant seed funding. They need their first dedicated product designer to own the entire product experience and build the design function from scratch.

This is a founding role with enormous scope. You'll work directly with the founding team to shape what gets built, refine a live product used by enterprise customers, and lead discovery on new product lines. Design here drives product direction—you won't be decorating decisions made elsewhere.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product experience from research and problem definition through interaction design, UI and shipped product
• Bring consistency to the existing application by refining and applying the design system across all features
• Partner with technical leadership to shape roadmap, scope releases and make product prioritization decisions
• Lead discovery and build proof-of-concepts for new product lines, moving from sketch to working prototype rapidly
• Conduct user research independently: run customer calls, observe compliance workflows, translate findings into clear product direction
• Establish design foundations including design system, interaction patterns, quality bar and cross-functional processes
• Set up design process from zero and position the function to scale, with potential to lead the team you build
• Work closely with engineering through implementation to ensure shipped product matches design intent

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Track record spanning early-stage through scale: joined pre-seed/seed and helped reach Series B, or joined Series A and scaled to Series C/D (may be across multiple companies)
• Genuine range handling both zero-to-one ambiguity and taking existing products to their next level
• Technical fluency: you've shipped code, understand systems architecture, and grasp engineering constraints without explanation
• Prototype in code as default practice using Cursor, Claude Code or similar AI-assisted tools alongside Figma expertise
• High agency to operate as sole designer under pressure, managing heavy varied workload while maintaining quality
• Strong UX judgment for complex workflows serving non-technical users like compliance reviewers and marketers

Preferred:

• Exposure to fintech, regtech or other regulated industries
• Experience designing for operational users who use software to accomplish specific jobs
• Fluency moving between fidelities rapidly—napkin sketch to clickable prototype in a day
• Experience building or leading a design function with clear perspective on how to start one

Working arrangements: London-based, four days per week in office (Farringdon). This is not a remote role.

Pay

Compensation details including salary range and equity will be discussed during the screening process with our recruitment team.
