Fashion Design to UX Design Career Changer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential design education organization that sponsors remote apprenticeships for individuals transitioning into user experience careers. Our client runs a structured 7-month mentorship program where participants work through complete UX design and research processes while building portfolio projects in their chosen industry or topic area.

This opportunity is ideal for career changers from creative fields—including fashion design—who want to move into UX research, UX design, product design, or service design roles. The program is conducted remotely and accepts participants from the United States.

Program Structure and Responsibilities

Selected apprentices will:

• Commit 5-10 hours per week to complete program deliverables over 7 months
• Attend weekend lectures (2-3 hours) or complete online video modules covering the end-to-end design process
• Lead a 0-1 digital product design project for a startup idea or topic of your choice
• Manage product scoping, feature scoping, and project management throughout the engagement
• Conduct discovery research including user recruitment, research planning, interview guide creation, and synthesis of insights from 8-16 user interviews
• Develop user personas, journey maps, stakeholder maps, process maps, service blueprints, and ideation frameworks
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and UX workflows, then lead usability testing to iterate on designs
• Build a complete design system from scratch including components, style guides, and branding
• Perform competitive analysis to articulate product differentiators
• Deliver UX design and business pitches showcasing qualitative and quantitative research
• Potentially consult with startups on scoped UX research and design projects

What We're Looking For

• Interest in creative tech career paths in UX research, UX design, product design, or service design
• Willingness to commit 5-10 hours weekly to program work
• Availability to attend weekend sessions or complete online coursework
• Openness to mentor feedback and willingness to revise design work
• New graduates or career changers welcome—no prior UX experience required
• No existing UX portfolio required to apply

Pay

This is an unpaid apprenticeship program. Participants receive 1:1 mentorship and structured training at no cost. Program alumni have gone on to secure UX positions with compensation in the range of $85,000-$130,000 after completing the 7-month program.
