Entrepreneurial AI Research Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded quantitative finance organization that is building frontier AI capabilities for proprietary applications. Our client operates a small, research-focused team where individual contributors shape the technical direction and ship rapidly from prototype to production.

This role sits at the intersection of research and engineering—you'll train large-scale models on unique, multimodal financial datasets and own the full loop from experimentation through deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for multimodal datasets
• Train and evaluate frontier-scale models using distributed compute infrastructure
• Take ownership of the research-to-production cycle: ideate, prototype, benchmark, and deploy
• Collaborate closely with researchers to discover and validate new methods
• Contribute to the technical roadmap and influence product direction

What We're Looking For

Core requirements:

• Proven self-starter with strong coding autonomy and collaborative instincts
• Deep machine learning expertise (PyTorch or JAX)
• Solid engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping research to production systems
• Low-ego, principle-driven mindset that values collaboration over hierarchy

Standout backgrounds (any one of the following):

• Experience at a frontier AI lab (Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepMind, or similar)
• Published novel research at top-tier venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR)
• Founded or led an AI or research-driven company
• Demonstrable independent achievement: major open-source contributions, competitive programming, or equivalent
