Staff Software Engineer

We are representing a profitable, fast-growing specialty insurance provider in the property and casualty space. Our client controls the full underwriting and distribution stack, backing policies with their own capital and serving thousands of commercial properties nationwide. They've scaled to 70+ team members while maintaining profitability and a collaborative, high-impact culture.

We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their engineering team in a hybrid role based in downtown Austin. This is a high-visibility position where you'll work across the entire platform, collaborating directly with leadership to shape technical strategy and deliver customer-focused solutions.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and ship production code across the full stack, setting technical standards for quality and scalability
• Design elegant solutions to complex problems in collaboration with product stakeholders
• Triage and resolve system-level issues while establishing best practices for reliability
• Identify and drive opportunities for performance improvements, code health, and team efficiency
• Build features with deep empathy for end users and commercial real estate customers
• Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of full-stack software development experience with a track record of delivering complex features at scale
• Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, and React on the frontend
• Strong backend experience with Node.js, Express.js, and REST APIs
• Solid infrastructure knowledge including relational databases, Git, and AWS
• Experience adopting best-in-class tooling and rapidly advancing AI development tools
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to lead cross-functional discussions
• DevOps experience is a plus—owning how code runs in production beyond just writing it
• Willingness to work hybrid from downtown Austin after onboarding
