Engineering Manager – Global Football & Rugby

Responsibilities

We are representing a global sports technology organization seeking an Engineering Manager to lead two engineering squads focused on data infrastructure that powers advanced analytics products used by elite football and rugby organizations worldwide.

In this role, you will:

• Lead technical excellence. Work closely with engineers to ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable software, actively participating in architecture and system design decisions.
• Drive product delivery. Partner with senior product managers and QA teams to understand business value, negotiate trade-offs, and oversee successful feature releases in a fast-paced environment.
• Manage and develop your team. Lead approximately eight engineers across two squads, focusing on their professional growth, wellness, and building a high-performing team culture.
• Champion AI-first engineering. Encourage your team to leverage AI tools and modern technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
• Enable platform adoption. Build infrastructure that enables other engineering teams to move faster, measuring success by the number of teams migrated and new capabilities unlocked.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Engineering management experience. 3+ years in engineering management, ideally with a background as an individual contributor or tech lead on platform, API, or data infrastructure teams. Product EM experience valued alongside platform depth.
• API design expertise. Deep experience designing and evolving APIs for multiple customers (internal or external), with understanding of why post-adoption changes are costly and how to design to avoid them.
• Technical proficiency. Strong technical background with experience architecting complex software using C#, TypeScript, AWS, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL, with comfort across data-lake patterns.
• Engineering credibility. Ability to build immediate trust with engineers through technical knowledge, helping navigate complex system designs.
• AI-forward mindset. Genuine excitement about AI-augmented engineering as a capability shift, not just a productivity tool.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with additional languages or tools beyond the core stack
• Interest in football analytics and products serving elite sports organizations

Location: London-based with hybrid work arrangements. You'll work more days in-office than remote, with flexibility to coordinate your specific schedule with your team.
