Director of Product Design

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Director of Product Design to lead design strategy across a critical payments portfolio. This is a senior leadership role where you'll shape product direction, build high-performing teams, and define the future of digital banking experiences for millions of users.

You'll partner with senior stakeholders across Product and Engineering to drive both strategic vision and exceptional execution. This role offers significant influence over product direction, organizational culture, and customer experience at scale.

Location: Cardiff or UK Remote (occasional London meetings required)

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and design vision for payments products, aligning with broader organizational goals while inspiring teams to think bigger
• Partner with leadership to define priorities, shape roadmaps, and translate strategy into impactful product execution
• Build, lead, and grow a high-performing team of Product Designers, investing in their development, wellbeing, and long-term career success
• Maintain exceptional quality standards across all design work through clear feedback, coaching, and hands-on leadership
• Create a culture where feedback flows freely, craft is celebrated, and design quality continuously evolves
• Champion design thinking across the organization, influencing how design shapes products, processes, and company culture
• Navigate complex, ambiguous product challenges while operating at multiple levels—from long-term vision to day-to-day execution

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading design strategy and vision across complex product areas, delivering meaningful customer and business impact
• Demonstrated ability to operate at multiple altitudes—from setting long-term direction to ensuring high-quality execution
• Strong track record building partnerships across Product, Engineering, Research, and Commercial functions, with ability to influence senior stakeholders through clarity and craft
• A strong point of view on product design with consistent ability to raise the bar for quality, systems thinking, and customer experience
• Experience building and leading high-performing design teams, creating environments where people grow and do exceptional work
• Knowledge of scaling design influence across organizations, shaping product direction, working methods, and culture beyond immediate teams
• Passion for creating thoughtful, innovative financial experiences that genuinely improve people's lives
• Comfort working in UK-based roles with flexible remote arrangements

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: £140,000 - £165,000 plus equity and benefits
