Data Engineer (Sydney Australia)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology consulting organisation seeking an experienced Data Engineer for their Sydney office. In this role, you will work directly with clients to design and modernise their data environments, building robust data pipeline architecture and analytics solutions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with engagement leads to deliver project outcomes and ensure client objectives are achieved
• Engaging with clients to conceptualise data solutions and modernise existing data environments
• Supporting sales activities including pre-sales and Proof of Concepts (POCs)
• Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture
• Assembling large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements
• Identifying, designing and implementing internal process improvements, including automating manual processes and optimising data delivery
• Building infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of sources using Microsoft technologies
• Developing analytics tools that utilise data pipelines to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics
• Working with stakeholders across executive, product, data and design teams to resolve data-related technical issues
• Providing technical assistance and guidance to junior consultants
• Participating in technical reviews and quality assurance activities
• Contributing to technical development through mentoring, knowledge sharing, blogs and workshops

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

• Experience building and maintaining data pipeline architecture and ETL/ELT processes
• Experience with modern data platform technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake or similar platforms
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced consulting environment
• Strong SQL skills and experience assembling large, complex data sets
• Experience modernising and migrating legacy data environments to cloud platforms
• Ability to design and implement process improvements, automation and scalable infrastructure
• Experience building analytics tools that deliver actionable business insights
• Exposure to client-facing consulting, including solution conceptualisation and requirements gathering
• Exposure to pre-sales activities and Proof of Concept (POC) development
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and executive audiences
• Experience participating in technical reviews and quality assurance activities
• Ability to deliver technical training and knowledge transfer sessions
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate are desirable

Pay
