About This Opportunity

We are representing a global nonprofit organization that delivers direct cash assistance to people living in poverty. Our client has moved over $1 billion to more than 2 million individuals across 15 countries since 2011, earning recognition as one of the world's most impactful development organizations.

We're recruiting for a Data Analyst, Internal Audit who will serve as the analytical backbone of fraud prevention efforts. This role sits at the intersection of deep data analysis, fraud risk detection, and cross-functional collaboration with product and engineering teams.

You'll mine enrollment, payment, and operational data to identify fraud patterns, build monitoring indicators, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for country teams and senior leadership. This position requires someone who can move fluidly between SQL consoles and stakeholder briefings, turning complex datasets into clear narratives that drive decision-making.

Location: Remote, with a requirement to overlap with East Africa timezone by at least 3 hours. Candidates must be located in countries where our client can employ (US, UK, Kenya, and select other locations). Our client cannot sponsor or transfer employment visas in the U.S. or U.K. at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze fraud risk trends across enrollment, payment, survey, and field-operations data to identify patterns such as duplicate enrollments, collusion, identity fraud, and fund diversion
  • Design, validate, and maintain recurring fraud-risk indicators in partnership with central data teams and operational control owners
  • Identify data quality issues in current Internal Audit data collection and implement process improvements
  • Package analysis into clear, credible briefs and presentations for country teams, operations leadership, and senior management with concrete fraud-reduction recommendations
  • Support fraud investigations by providing data pulls, quantifying exposure, and reconstructing events with fully documented queries, data lineage, assumptions, and QA checks
  • Partner with Product and Data Engineering teams to translate validated risk signals into product requirements and test fraud-detection tooling
  • Back-test risk indicators against investigated cases, monitor precision and false-positive rates, and refine methodology based on outcomes
  • Communicate uncertainty transparently, distinguishing confirmed fraud from suspicious-but-unconfirmed patterns to support sound decision-making

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience in data analysis, audit, risk, or a related analytical role
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working directly in large, messy operational datasets (Salesforce data, payments data, survey data)
  • Python experience for reproducible analysis, automation, record linkage, anomaly investigation, or data-quality testing (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Familiarity with analytical notebooks, version control, and documenting analysis for review and reproducibility
  • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous, exploratory analysis into clear, defensible narratives for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience or strong interest in working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to translate analytical needs into product requirements
  • Sound judgment on evidence quality and the ability to distinguish real signals from noise
  • High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information about staff, recipients, and active investigations
  • Experience in internal audit, fraud/forensics, or nonprofit/development contexts is a plus but not required
