Staff Data Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization in their search for a Staff Data Scientist based in London. Our client is scaling their data capabilities and needs a technical leader who can architect production machine learning systems from the ground up while driving measurable business impact.

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will serve as a force multiplier for the data organization—not just solving difficult problems, but identifying which problems are worth solving. You will bridge the gap between business strategy and production-ready ML, building frameworks that are technically sound, scalable, and deliver clear business results.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement automated ML systems from 0-to-1, making pragmatic architectural choices while establishing core ML infrastructure
• Translate ambiguous business questions into concrete technical roadmaps covering customer acquisition, churn dynamics, and operational optimization
• Lead end-to-end deployment of ML products, ensuring they are robust, maintainable, and fully integrated into production infrastructure
• Partner across Engineering, Product, and Business teams to align technical strategy with business objectives and core metrics
• Establish technical standards for model development through design documentation and peer reviews
• Own the full model lifecycle from initial data design through long-term performance monitoring and business value delivery
• Mentor Senior and Mid-level Data Scientists to elevate technical standards across the organization

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science or ML Engineering with a proven track record building production systems that deliver measurable business impact
• High proficiency in Python and SQL with expert-level experience in the Python data stack (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)
• Expert-level experience with at least one major ML framework such as PyTorch, XGBoost, or LightGBM
• Ability to work on unique problems requiring conceptual thinking and broad organizational impact
• Proven ability to influence without authority and translate complex technical concepts for executive leadership
• Experience with CI/CD, MLOps, and managing full model lifecycles in cloud-based production environments (AWS or GCP)
• BS, MS, or PhD in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics) or equivalent field expertise

Preferred Qualifications:

• 0-to-1 execution experience taking exploratory ML notebooks to reliable, automated production pipelines
• Experience in one or more advanced business ML areas: customer behavior and propensity modeling, applied forecasting and time-series analysis, optimization engines for marketing or inventory, or causal inference and quasi-experimental design
